A new Listening Service has been started in Felixstowe under the umbrella of Ipswich based Inspire Counselling and Training, in response to the need for a short term listening ear for people in the area facing problems and life issues.
The service is headed up by Margaret Bale,
from Felixstowe Salvation Army, who had the original vision and who has been working with Inspire for over a year to set up the basics of the programme. It is supported by Christians from across the churches and seven trained Listeners will provide three sessions each week. Listeners will offer a professional service – though not full counselling – and those who require referral on to counselling or other helping agencies will be linked to the most appropriate provider.
The Centre will operate on an initial ‘drop in’ basis, with the first conversation being followed up by a maximum of four 45 minute sessions. Opening times will be from 1pm until 7pm on a Wednesday and 9am and 1pm on a Friday.
The free service, available to anyone over 18 years, will operate in conjunction with Inspire Counselling & Training, which will provide policies, procedures and overall management to ensure a fully professional approach. There will also be a local Management Committee to oversee the day to day running of the Centre.
ACCESSING THE SERVICE
… it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.
1.Get in touch with us
either by phoning us on 07896 326459
or by calling in during our weekly drop-in session
at Felixstowe Library on Friday, between 9.15 am and 1 pm: you will find us upstairs
2.Have an informal chat with a member of the Team
if you can’t make it to our Friday session
we will arrange a time that is convenient to you
3.We will make an appointment for you to
meet with one of our trained Listeners
if after talking to us you feel that this would
be helpful. You will not usually have to wait very
long for your first listening appointment. Most listening appointments are at the Library (in a private room) on Wednesday afternoons or evenings but we can make other arrangements if these times are not possible for you.
It really is that simple! And we will do our very best to provide a service which is safe, confidential and friendly and supports you in exploring your personal difficulties and feelings and making decisions. And, if appropriate, we will assist you in accessing other types of help and support, including counselling.
